Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has heavily criticized yet another case of police militarization — this time, from West Virginia.
This week the police department of Moundsville, WV, presented the MRAP, a military vehicle made to protect fighters from roadside explosives. The vehicle, which was requested by the department back in the fall, was surplus military equipment and therefore didn’t cost anything.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez reacted with a tweet, slamming the MPD’s replenishment and calling out the hypocrisy by comparing the situation to the free healthcare issue. When it comes to free healthcare, the tweet said, the opponents see not paying for stuff as something irresponsible. But, in their book, it is normal to send military equipment to undertrained cops because it was acquired for free.
