A recent White House statement claims that President Donald Trump discharging numerous inspectors general was not against the law. Democrats responded with calling this letter “completely inadequate” and lacking respect.
According to Michigan Senator Gary Peters, the statement didn’t give a legitimate reason why the inspectors general were dismissed.
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer had earlier asked the White House to explain the April-May removals, to which counsel Pat Cipollone stated that these actions were performed within the scope of Trump’s authority and that Congress was alerted beforehand.
Danielle Brian of the Project on Government Oversight commented that if Congress doesn’t start to draft legislation soon, Trump can keep eliminating watchdogs “with abandon.”
