During his interview with SBG’s Sharyl Attkisson, President Donald Trump claimed that his administration is taking the correct measures by lifting the COVID-19 restrictions across the U.S.

“We’re doing the right thing by getting it going, we have to open,” he said.

Almost 100,000 people have died in recent months from the virus in the United States, with over 1.5 million cases confirmed, and 39 million Americans have applied for unemployment benefits in the past two months. A recent poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows just 41% of Americans approve of the president’s job performance.

Despite the statistics, Trump claims that the U.S. has been the most successful country in the world in terms of battling the virus: “No country has ever done better than what we were doing just a number of months ago and we had to turn it off to save a lot of lives, which we’ve done. And now we’re opening it up again and I think we’re going to get our economy back fast.”

When talking about the current situation between the U.S. and China, Trump blamed the Chinese Government for failing to stop the COVID-19 spread. When asked about how transformative the pandemic has been on the United States, he replied with “[China] could have stopped it. Either it was incompetent or they didn’t want to — both are not very acceptable.”
